Researcher Profile
DC2: Lightweight and additive manufacturing for optimised cycloidal reducers
Sohail Ahmed MS is a Research Engineer specializing in computational mechanics and materials. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Aircraft Engineering from the Nehru Group of Institutions in India before completing a Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering at École Centrale de Lyon, France where his thesis titled “Design Techniques and Performance Enhancement of Composite Materials” centered on finite element modelling, structural dynamics, and the data-driven design of advanced composite structures. During the research and development internship at LTDS and CIME Industries, he led the dynamic analysis of high-aspect-ratio composite structures, benchmarking natural-fiber laminates against fiberglass and achieving significant improvements in damping and stiffness. He later joined Centrale Innovation, where he assisted in developing convolutional neural network models that extract governing equations from wavefield data. His earlier experience in aircraft base and line maintenance with operators provides a strong practical foundation where he completed the aviation modules under Civil Aviation authority in India. His research interests span composites, lightweight design, structural optimization, and machine learning for materials.
